A minimum 5 m nominal pre-filter is required upstream (before) the UV system
installation point. As UV system efficiencies are dictated by penetration of the UV
light through the water column, particulate matter within the water column could
decrease the disinfection capacity, and potentially create a harmful condition
(filtration systems sold separately)
For added protection, it is recommended that a 1m absolute filter be installed
for cyst reduction prior to treatment by the UV system (filtration systems sold
separately).
Water Quality Parameters
Water quality will adversely affect the performance of your vitapur
®
UV disinfection
system, and the following levels should be utilized as a guideline for pre-treatment
requirementsoftheinuentwatersupplypriortoUVtreatment:
Iron Total iron count must be less than 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L)
Turbidity Countmustbelessthan1NTU
Tannins Count must be less than 0.1 ppm (0.1 mg/L)
Manganese Count must be less than 0.05 ppm (0.05mg/L)
Hardness Countmustbelessthan120ppm(7grainspergallon)
%UVT (transmittance) Must be greater than 75%
If you are using untreated surface water or untreated groundwater as your source of
supply, the suitability of the water supply for potable applications must be confirmed
by the provincial / state and/or local health agency that has jurisdiction.
Ifthetestresultsindicatethat:(1)anyoftheabovecontaminantlevelsarebeing
exceeded,or(2)anyprevailingdrinkingwaterhealthstandardsarenotbeingmet,
additional pre-treatment options must be installed that will eliminate all contaminants
posinghealthrisks.Non-municipalwatershouldbetestedonanongoingbasisto
ensure treatment efficiency.
